"A physician, medical practitioner (British English), medical doctor, or simply doctor is a health professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring health through the study, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments. Physicians may focus their practice on certain disease categories, types of patients, and methods of treatment—known as specialties—or they may assume responsibility for the provision of continuing and comprehensive medical care to individuals, families, and communities—known as general practice. Medical practice properly requires both a detailed knowledge of the academic disciplines, such as anatomy and physiology, underlying diseases, and their treatment, which is the science of medicine, and a decent competence in its applied practice, which is the art or craft of the profession." Doctors (Physicians) have always been the centerpiece of medicine. Men and women have generally entered the profession to help people not for how much money they can make. People have gone to them for treatment of their aches and pains, which plague their lives. Humans trust them to provide them with comfort, understanding and a path to a good and happy health and future. Lately however with the advent of a shortage of doctors, the corporatization of the health industry, the limiting of college applicants and the growing utilization of Artificial Intelligence, the profession has taken a dramatic turn. Often one must wait a great deal of time to schedule an appointment (if one is available), find a doctor (often told he or she is no longer taking new patients or not accepting Medicare, Medicaid or certain insurance. When someone finally sees a doctor the session is short and often inconclusive. The doctor will be more interested in what is on the computer screen and less interested in what the patient is saying. A new development is the assigning the patient 's care to a nurse and never really seeing or treating them. Thus the patient is sent away with a prescription and vague instructions. This is not the way it is suppose to be, medical schools should never artificially limit candidates, doctors should be free agents in dealing with patients, not limited in time, prognosis and artificial standards, patients should be treated and diagnosed by the doctor not a nurse (however she or he should be available in a support position), governments ,insurance companies and corporations should not dictate procedures, treatments and diagnosis. Doctors must always hold the standards of First Do No Harm!
