Franco-Prussian
War
(July 19,
1870 – May 10, 1871)
A war that was a prelude to World War I, in which the Bismarck's
Prussians (Germans) in the North German Confederation fought with
the Second French Empire over a desire to control the Southern
German states of Baden, Wuttemberg, Bavaria and Hesse-Damstadt as
well as the area of Alsace and Lorraine. Eventually Bismarck
defeated the French and took over the areas in dispute.
