Voting My Opinion

VotingThe democratic process in which the population elects government  officials and determine the social, economic and cultural path a nation will take. Voting is the one way the average citizen can express their feelings about the way politicians are running their country and economy. It should never be taken lightly nor should it be ignored or marginalized. We have been asked why the first week in November is the period for Federal election. The answer is simple the early republic was based on agriculture and that is the period of time after the fall crop has been harvested and the fields lay fallow. The farmers thus had the time and ability to vote.

My Opinion
We are facing a challenge to our Democracy that has far reaching effect not only to our country but the political systems that are struggling through out the planet. Are we going to be ruled by autocrats or dictators or are we going to maintain our democratic heritage and encourage others to develop their own. Our First Amendment outlined our desires and dreams for a better government and world. The key to maintaining and strengthening our Democracy is the power of the vote. It is the keystone to how we as a  people want to effect the course of action we want our government to take.
Here are my suggestions:
1. Strengthen and modify the Voting Rights Act , the 1975 Amendment  and the recent Supreme Court Ruling to eliminate any chance for voter suppression and encourage the right of every person to vote. A true democracy is one in which Social Justice is applied to everyone equally so that each individual feels a functioning part of a society, culture and national conscious. The individual would thus have a stake in the economy, culture and government.
2. Make all voting districts creations be done not by legislatures but by independent non-partisan commissions.
3. Modify the Election Process of the Presidency by Eliminate the Electoral College and have the Presidential candidate that receives the most votes become the next President.
4. Move the Presidential inauguration to one month from the certification of the votes (certification set by federal law).
5. Set up a non-partisan commission whose sole function would be to investigate any charge of lying, misrepresentation of information by a candidate. If found guilty they would be banned from running or office and denied any future candidacy. *
6. A third non-partisan commission needs to be established to investigate any charges of fraud or voter irregularity. If substantial, verifiable, evidence is found, they can call for an audit and recount. Any individual, organization, government agency or company that is found to be liable would be submitted to the federal, local and state investigative agencies for prosecution. Furthermore any person or organization that submits false evidence would be charged with interfering with the voting process, with severe penalties.*
7. Set up another non-partisan commission that would also investigate charges of lying, favoritism, misrepresentation of information by any media. If found guilty they would be fined and subject to loss of license and banning from social media, the airways and the internet.
8. Make laws that ban dark money. Every contributor to a campaign must make their name public, who they gave the money too. Those who received the money must also state who they received the money from.*
9. Social Media needs to do a much better job and monitoring posts to insure that what is being presented is accurate.*

10. Require all federal agencies to cooperate with the President Elect in the transition, under the penalty of law.
11. Require that all citizens be automatically registered to vote at the time of birth.
12. Increase the political separation of the DOJ from infringing on the voting process.
13. All voting by law must be open, monitored and subject to investigation
14. People who voted by early voting or absentee ballots and soon thereafter died, should always have their votes counted. They were citizens at the time they voted and their death should never be criteria for dismissal. Stanford SIEPR recently had and "Article Dead People Don't Vote".
* Many might state what about freedom of speech and press. We all have those freedoms but not the freedom to lie.
