The Race for Space
The Space Race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union over who would control space and the Moon. The space race had it foundation during World War II when Germany launched the first missiles that returned to Earth as weapons of mass destruction. At end of the war, American and Soviet soldiers scrambled to capture the German scientist so they too could continue this missile technology. Russia opened up the race when it launched Sputnik and the United States followed with a rapid expansion of their own programs.
