World War I
(1914-1918)
The advent of the 20th century saw Europe at the brink of disaster. The many nations competed for colonies, military superiority, political domination, economic supremacy, and cultural influence. Nations created alliances and argued with one another over borders and trading rights. Eventually all that was needed was a spark which created a cascading effect, as the different nations took sides until the whole Earth was either directly involved in a "War to End all Wars".
