Blog Legends and Myths

"Myth is a genre of folklore consisting primarily of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society. For scholars, this is totally different from the ordinary sense of the term myth, meaning a belief that is not true, as the veracity of a piece of folklore is entirely irrelevant to determining whether it constitutes a myth. Myths are often endorsed by religious and secular authorities, and may be natural or supernatural in character." Source Wikipedia
"A legend is a genre of folklore that consists of a narrative featuring human actions, believed or perceived to have taken place in human history. Narratives in this genre may demonstrate human values, and possess certain qualities that give the tale verisimilitude. Legend, for its active and passive participants, may include miracles. Legends may be transformed over time to keep them fresh and vital." Source Wikipedia

Legends
Myths along with legends have long been a part of human development, traditions, religions and ways of life since humans first tried to gain an understanding of their universe. I once heard a phrase which stated in time myths become legends and legends become facts. Today I see this is happening more and more by religious, cultural and political leaders to benefit their positions and supporters. The myth and or legend does not necessarily have to be true, it only matters if people believe it to be true! Social Media and modern communication systems such as TV streaming, radio ,word of mouth, blogging and podcasting are being used in abundance. History and religion are replete with myths and legends concerning  political, religious and cultural individuals and beliefs. They tend to influence, if not dominate our  thinking and ways of life.
