Make time for them. Nothing is more important than your children!
Be consistent and fair. Take a balance approach to your punishment. Don't change your rules unless you find what you are trying to accomplish is not working.
Provide a feeling of security. Children respond positively if they feel that they can find a place of safety in their home.
You control what they see and hear. It is your home and you should be in charge of what occurs.
Listen before you give advise. Be patient and hear what is said but bear in mind that some children can be manipulative.
Answer questions simply and honestly. Don't jump to conclusions and assume you know all the facts.
If you make a mistake, admit it and move forward.
Do not be afraid to seek help. Talk to the counselors, teachers and state officials.
