Cheerleading: a sports activity in which young
girls and boys perform a form of dance
and gymnastic activities to support an
athletic team. Originally cheerleaders were men and had its start
with gridiron and Ivy League football in the mid-1800s. Its
growth parallels the growth of high school, College and
professional football.
