Educational Choices |
"School
choice is
a term for education options that allow students and
families to select alternatives to traditional public
schools.
It is the subject of fierce debate in various state
legislatures across the United States.
School choice options include scholarship
tax credit programs,
open enrollment laws (which allow students to attend public
schools other
than their neighborhood school), charter
schools, magnet
schools, virtual
schools, homeschooling, education
savings accounts (ESAs),
and individual education tax
credits or
deductions." Source

Guidelines
Choices
Modern society is now at the stage
where governments, parents and
business must decide what system of
education is best for the students
in an ever changing world. Private,
public, parochial, home school or a
combination of them. We as parents
and grandparents must decide which
type of education our. children must
have. We need to take into account
as to what we want our children to
learn, how they are to learn it and
the methods of the information,
skills and techniques are being
used. My opinion, training and
experience is that a student should
be taught to think, explore and come
to conclusions from what they learn
using exploration and in an open
mind, not by indoctrination, force
or intimation. Teaching to a child's
strengths and abilities must always
be taken into account, also in
making decisions. Another factor we
must take into account is how much
can you afford and what latitude you
are willing to give the
institutions..

Choices
My experience has been that often
parents when they make decisions on
what path their children must take,
once the date of graduation
approaches, rarely take into account
the wishes, attributes, skills and
technical knowledge of their
children. If they want to become a
profession (doctor, lawyer, teacher,
nurse etc) then work towards that
direction. If want to work in a
different field of employment
(technical and or business),
then find out what that field it is
and discuss it with them to come to
a mutual agreement. This type open
discussions will only lead to a less
painful, frustrating an costly
future. |
“Education is the passport to the future, for
tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
— Malcolm X |
“The
function of education is to teach one to think
intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus
character – that is the goal of true education.”
— Martin Luther King, Jr. |
